Fenrir Jute Tug Toy

When I adopted Luna, I thought to myself “I got this, I have had puppies before!” I in fact did not have whatever “this” was. It had been 10 years since having a puppy. I knew how to do the basic things: Potty training, feeding, crate training, and generally teaching how to bite something other than my hands. What I didn’t realize was that I both forgot how annoying puppy biting can be and had never had a dog with such a high prey drive. This meant I needed to find ways for us to safely play when it was too hot or cold to go outside for a long period of time.

Luna loves to play, but part of that play (even now) includes putting her teeth on whatever she can. Thankfully, she has pretty much learned what is appropriate to bite and what is not. One of her favorites is the Fenrir Jute Tug Toy.

This is our very loved toy

This is our Jute Tug Toy currently. We have had it for a little less than a year.

There are a number of tug toys like this on the market, but this one has been the best one for us. Over the next few paragraphs, let’s chat a bit about why. First, I will give you some information about what Jute even is, then some information about how it holds up for us, and lastly, if I think this was a good investment in our dog toy collection. There are A LOT of toys. Keep an eye out for more reviews.

Material:

The main part of this tug toy is made from Jute. What is Jute? Great question because I did not know either. It turns out the Jute is a plant fiber. Apparently, it has a reputation for being very strong, sturdy, and biodegradable. It also seems to be what burlap sacks are made from. Which I think means even if you think you have never seen it, you likely have seen it.

It makes a ton of sense to make a tug toy from this material. It does not get very dirty, it is hard to crew apart, and if you do decide to get rid of it, there is not more plastic in the world.

While I have never felt the need to wash ours, it apparently can be washed. Before doing so, though, I would check out the care instructions here: https://fenrircanineleaders.com/collections/best-sellers/products/fenrir-jute-tug-toy

How well it holds up:

When I first started buying tug toys like this for her, they did not last very long. She is not a super destructive dog, opting to carry around a stuffed animal toy over chewing it to bits. That being said, she will chomp through a tug toy as fast as she can. Even if we play with it a lot, she will pull it apart if she can.

As you can see, that has not happened here. Both Luna and Copper play with this toy all the time. I have never picked it up and thought “Ugh! Time for a new one.” At the worst, they have at times chewed on the handles. If that happens, then we may need to pick one up again, but so far, we are good.

Is it worth it?

Yes! I have spent way too much money on a ton of different toys. A lot that the dogs do not even seem to like. At just $15USD, this one has been an investment that is well worth it.

Look at how much Luna loves this bad boy:

A few things to note before we go:

$15USD is the price as of 1/20/25

All toys of this nature come with some risk of the dog incorrectly aiming when playing. Make sure to put the time in to teach the dog to only bit the middle of the toy. Also, never let a child play with this toy and the dog alone.

Sadly, at this moment they are sold out. You can be notified when they available again thought. Just click this link: https://fenrircanineleaders.com/collections/best-sellers/products/fenrir-jute-tug-toy
