About the Zoo
It’s not a real zoo even if it feels like it sometimes. Here is some general information about me and the animals.
Danni
Hi!
I am Danni. I have been a pet owner for 20+ years now. As a broke ass teen who just really wanted a dog, I ended up buying pretty much whatever I could afford. Over the years that has changed. I have been able to spend more on different pet products. Some that were absolutely worth it and some that were not at all. The one thing I could never find was a comprehensive place that gave honest reviews about a lot of pet products. This is my attempt to build that.
In addition to this I have spent many volunteer hours at two different shelters and a very brief stint as a dog walker. Generally I just really love animals.
Please keep in mind that I am doing this in my free time and so we are all going to go on this journey together!
Current Zoo Residents
These are the friends who are currently living at the zoo!
Copper, Zelda and Luna
At the moment I have two dogs and cat. My oldest is the beautiful beagle you see here. His name is Copper “Im a hound dog”. Yes, you guessed correctly, he is named after the bloodhound in “The Fox and The Hound” . He is 10 years old and the best boy ever!.
Next is Zelda the cat. Her name says it all, she is the princess around here. She is 8 years old and was the youngest in the house until recently. Both her and her brother came into my care when we lived in California. They have been adjusting over the last few years to their New York life.
Last, is Luna. Named after Luna Lovegood and far before I knew that Luna was one of the most popular female dog names. Oh well! True to her name, she is a weirdo in the best way. 100% pure mutt, she is really the reason behind why I am writing these reviews.
While we are doing great, the first few months of owning her were more challenging than any animal I have ever taken care of myself. This resulted in my buying and trying a lot of things.
Ultimately, the most effective thing I paid for was professional training. That being said I did discover a lot of products I loved. I also discovered a lot of products I did not. Now, I get to use that information to my advantage.
Past Zoo Residents
These buddies have sadly passed, but have also helped me over the years to learn a ton about animals and the products we use to care for them.
Lola, Bonks and Simba
Lola was my first dog. I loved her to bits, but when I moved to California, my family couldn’t handle me taking her with me. She passed away in 2016 while I was home visiting. She touched so many peoples lives and we will never be able to thank her enough.
Shortly after I moved, I knew I needed a dog. In came Bonks! A backyard breed (though I didn’t know what that was at the time) Cockapoo. The sweetest and silliest dog I have ever owned. After a long battle with a serious heart condition and several falls from him slowing going blind, in January of 2024 it was his time to go. Im still not sure I have fully recovered from this loss, but he will always be loved.
Last is Simba. The most orange cat of orange cats. He was great. Loved people and the sun. Never found a food he didn’t love and was Bonks buddy his entire life. More like a dog in a cats body, he was the best. He had been battling a none stop thyroid issue. By the end of which, no matter how much medicine or food I could give him, it wasn’t enough. In November of 2024 I had to let him go. I never imagined losing two pets in one year. Im so thankful to all my animals.
Love you all!
